The acoustic defects in gymnasiums usually include two problems: one is that the reverberation time is too long, and the other is that there are serious acoustic focusing and flutter echoes. It is not very difficult to solve the first problem. Just add an appropriate amount of sound absorbing materials in the museum (make full use of the wall and top) to shorten the reverberation time. The technical difficulties are the accuracy of design and calculation and the preciseness of construction technology.
The major difficulty in solving the acoustic defects of the gymnasium is how to eliminate the serious acoustic focusing and flutter echo caused by the arc vault and circular wall, without changing the overall shape, appearance, lighting function and architectural style determined by the original architectural design and decoration design of the gymnasium, which is the most challenging and creative key in architectural acoustic design.
Common solutions to the above problems in recent years are as follows:
1)Install plane acoustic ceiling on the ceiling
This method is applied to theaters, auditoriums and gymnasiums with flat roofs, and the effect is very good。
2)Suspend a large area of sound absorber under the arch grid
This method has been used in Beijing Chengbei Gymnasium and Guangzhou Zhongshan Memorial Hall with good results. However, the stadium used for the arc vault or the transparent roof materials will affect the appearance and also affect the position of the originally designed or installed lighting fixtures. It is not recommended. Hang a large sound absorber in the center of the ceiling to solve the defects such as sound focusing.
3)Install strip sound absorber (sound absorption strip) along the vault grid
This method was used in Guangzhou Gymnasium, the main venue of the Ninth National Games. The sound absorbing strip patented by Germany was used in a large amount and expensive, but the effect was still not very satisfactory.
4)Spraying sound-absorbing paste to the vault
This method was used for the back wall of the stage and the wall of the side platform of Zhongshan Memorial Hall in Guangzhou, and the effect is acceptable. However, due to the construction technology (for example, the thickness of the paint is not easy to accurately control), it is impossible to accurately control the reverberation time. It can only be used for some small local treatment, and is not suitable for large area reverberation design that requires precision.
5)In recent years, it is a common practice to use pre tested spatial sound absorbers (prefabricated parts)
It is hung on the roof along the shape of the grid. It can achieve better and more accurate sound absorption effect. Similar methods have been used in Guangdong Zhongshan Ancient Town Gymnasium, Zhaoqing University Gymnasium and other venues, with good results. This scheme will not unduly affect the architectural style. If the shape and color of the space sound absorber are properly combined, it will also have a certain beautification effect.
